UP City Council Approves No-Smoking Ordinance
If you’ll hop on the way-back machine for a second, you’ll recall that last December the University Park City Council deferred an across-the-board smoking ban to the Commercial-Retail Advisory Committee for revisions.
Well, the revised ordinance was considered and approved by the council last night. It’s by no means the same ordinance, and while it bans smoking in all public buildings in the city, it has several provisions for retail tobacco stores.
The ordinance states that cigar shops and the like must provide separate HVAC and ventilation systems “that prevent the commingling of air with other businesses, common areas, hallways and tother non-smoking areas.” Smoking is still allowed on patios.
