Park Cities — One Giant Bird Toilet

Posted on March 9th, 2010 by Merritt Patterson | Filed under Highland Park, University Park, Weather

What’s up with the crazy birds leaving their mark all over town? Sick. Out. I like birds and all but this is ridiculous. Is there a scientific reason for the Park Cities becoming one big bird toilet?

OMG, my car has been NAILED twice this month…like, it looked like the bird poop had been shot out of a freaking cannon! Even the car wash guy was appalled. There’s definitely something going on with the birds this spring; perhaps irritable bowel syndrome?

They say we’re going to have a record breaking bumper crop of wild flowers from all the rain & snow this year. Maybe we’re having a bumper crop of those red berries on bushes that make the birds do the nasty poops? Every now and then a flock of those black grackles will land in a big tree that hangs over my pool. So LOUD it usually alerts me – ew, nasty will start falling in the pool water. Last Spring I went out back with a metal pot and spoon and started banging away. It worked! They flew off after just a couple of minutes.

Trees. You won’t see as many in Plain-0 I bet.

Thank you! I thought it was just me. The Bradford pear tree in my front yard is starting to bud out so every day last week I had Hitch****-level birds. I bought one of those plastic owl thingies and put it up in the tree. It’s working pretty well so far. (Although shaking the tree is more fun and effective.)

Um, I wasn’t trying to type a dirty word. This is what I was referring to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Birds_(film).

Many, many years ago I lived within walking distance of Snider Plaza and shopped at that grocery store regularly. I was always amazed (and disgusted) by how many grackles were in those trees between there and the oil change place. Particularly at dusk. Is that still a hot spot?

All of the PC should be a bird toilet. We should put toll booths on each street exiting the bubble.

The bird zones are everywhere. Preston and Beltline is particularly bad on the wires there at that intersection. I think there are much worse bird-zones than the PC!
