Ten Best Dressed Announced

To whom do these well-heeled legs belong? The Crystal Charity Ball’s Ten Best Dressed for 2010, who were just announced this morning at Neiman’s downtown.

And just who are they?

Nancy Carter, Robyn Conlon, Claire Emanuelson, Kim Miller, Pat McEvoy, Aileen Pratt, Nancy Rogers, Amy Turner, Lee Ann White, and Ellen Winspear were named as the Ten Best Dressed for 2010.

Named to the 2010 Best Dressed Hall of Fame is Marilyn Augur.

Put Sept. 10 down for the luncheon, pick out your outfit, and make sure that you get a ticket. They go fast.

    Are you sure that’s a picture of the best dressed?? I would have guessed (A) a street walkers’ convention or (B) the waiting room at a podiatrist’s office.

    If you look closely, you’ll see those green shoes match her skirt which is the identical color. If her purse matches too, yuk!

    And how do you get picked for this fine honor? Do they just review your husband’s bank account or your Neiman’s charge account and the top 10 get selected? Assuming the charge account gets paid in total every month. Do they secretly follow a select group of women around town to make sure they are always wearing designer dresses and heels? Or is it just the 10 people who end up photographed and talked about the most frequently in Alan Peppard’s column.

    Am I the only one who has ever wondered what the point/purpose of Alan Peppard’s column is? Does anyone even read it? I just see it and move on.

    As long as we’re criticising the green patent pump lady, how about the uber dark spray tan and the bleached almost to white hair you can see at the top of the pic? The first lady is in leather skirt and some bondagesque shoes happening – fiesty for a best dressed nominee.

    I love the green shoes. Though I can’t help but think they’re overshadowed by the 3 pair of Louboutins just above.

    And as a shoe lover I must point out, there is no better camera angle when you’re spotin’ your new red sole skips.

    Hey Party Poopers – I’m too cheap to spend $700 on a pair of shoes (but would welcome a benefactor who isn’t) but these ladies raise a whole lot of money for Dallas children’s causes. Sometimes there’s a little fluff that goes on with the Dallas philanthropy scene but the people here are incredibly generous and North Texas is a better place for having people who not only can write the big checks, but for the kind of people who can ask people to write them. That isn’t always easy. And for the record, I’m not involved in CCB or any of these fancy pants organizations. I’m a working mom and a volunteer (the grunt work kind) who recognizes the value in these charity events.

    I’m with Kersten on this one. Hey, they’ve got the dough to wear green shoes and red-soled shoes, let ‘em. And they do look great. And as Kersten points out, they volunteer and give lots of that dough to various charities. I’ll bet a bunch of these women have slung hash in our school cafeterias as well feeding our kids lunch.

    Hey I love the legs and especially the green shoes lady. No matter her age she looks hot from that camera angle. And I’m not questioning their generosity but I do question the “10 best dressed” title and how they achieved it. If they are generous with their money and hopefully their time then why not “10 most generous charitable contributors” which reflects what they really do. Maybe the hoi polloi would then comprehend.

    FYI: As each lady was introduced on stage, a list of their individual accomplishments and contributions was read to the crowd. Due to the lengthy lists, the photographers were asked to extend the photographing time to keep the ladies on stage.

    Not to sound too preachy, but the Crystal Charity Ball ladies have contributed nearly $100M to children’s charities in Dallas since it began in 1953. Part of that money has been generated from the Ten Best Dressed Luncheon.

    I shall now get down from my soapbox and back into my flip flops.

    Another thing I have wondered about these lists……in the releases about the chosen women they are usually listed as Mrs. Husband’s name. I am married and it would feel odd to be referred to that way. And does that mean no single women are allowed to be on there? Or is it that most single women can’t afford 6 digit NM expenses.

    Amy Turner has family money – maybe all of these women do. I dunno. Of course there’s some narcissism in these women to allow themselves to be paraded around on a ten best dressed list. But the results of their efforts still ring true. The other thing is, and I firmly believe this, is that even if they are spending their husband’s money on these clothes – those men wouldn’t be as successful as they are without their wives’ help. Yeah, I said it.

    @citygirl: You’re a woman after my own heart. BTW, someone must have read your mind. I just checked the release and nary a husband’s name was mentioned.

    And trust me — many husbands have made connections thanks to their wives’ “networking.” And I’m not just talking about the CCB spouses.
