Attempted Robbery/Mugging on Stanhope

This e-mail is making its way around, the original went out at 3:21 p.m. today.

Hi everyone, Someone just attempted to rob me–in my front yard, in broad daylight, with people nearby. I’m absolutely fine, thanks be to God.

I will try to make the story brief:

I live on Stanhope.  I parked on the street outside the house and was transporting stuff in and out of my car.  I think my Driver’s side door was open.

There were some lawn guys working diagonally across the street and my next door neighbor was going back and forth in and out of the house.

A guy drove past in a big, black Toyota Tundra pickup truck.  He either passed me and drove around the block and came up to me again, or simply passed me, but either way, he parked in the center of the street, got out and walked toward me.  He held a washcloth draped over his hand which he pointed at me.  He said, “give me your purse”, and I LITERALLY SAID “HUH?”.  He repeated himself and I LITERALLY SAID “WHAT???”  I was so confused and incredulous!  So he said, “Give me your purse, it’s in the car”, to which I replied, “no it’s not” (it wasn’t).  At that point, my slow brain finally got in gear, and I turned to my neighbor, who thankfully was outside at that point, and I screamed “Call 911!”

I must have screamed it a few times and quite loudly because the guy jumped back in his truck and sped off.  Luckily, I got the license plate number.  UP police ran it through and this guy has a criminal record.  Here is his description:

A white male, age 35-45, bald in the center but with short shaved hair on each side above the ears, maybe 5’11′, 220 lbs, big, broad guy, long vine-like tatoo on his left arm (shoulder to above elbow).  He was wearing a tank top and shorts (?).  Again, he drove a shiny, big black Toyota Tundra pickup truck.

The UP police were driving around looking for him, last I heard, but who knows.

Please be careful, even in your front yard.  Keep your cell phone with you all the time. Mine is normally with me, but it was inside charging.  Don’t get complacent!
