Steve Mace: Thank you for that information. I do appreciate the clarity on that. For the record I am not angry by the expenditures, but simply disappointed by the character of the improvements. I just feel that many of them do not fit the old character of U.P. Instead of understated, simple and natural, we’ve had projects that are ostentatious, suburban and artificial. I do, however, admit to being ticked off that so much time and money was spent to rip up the trees and vegetation at the NE corner of Lovers / Hillcrest for such a terrible design that was put in place, only to have to scrape it a year later to make it look like it did originally.
More careful planning and preserving the character of this unique place we have. That’s all I’m trying to say.

Man, I’ve completely overlooked that. U.P.’s own ‘grump’ must be the only person confirmed as having the ability to distinguish pedophiles from other seemingly normal people – just by looking. Wow No wonder your children shouldn’t be afraid. And thanks for the tip on that Billingsley guy you’re so fixated on. Apparently he’s ok.

Saw Billingsley at Thackery and NW HWY tonight.
Didn’t look like a pedophile. Looked hot and sweaty. Maybe running from the lynch mob looking for pedophiles at Coffee Park.

I agree with the comments by ‘S’. There is no doubt that Coffee Park is too much of an advertisement to passersby on Northwest Hwy, and because of that it is used extensively by hundreds from outside the Park Cities area – way outside, just as our U.P. pool is. I would never be able to leave my kids there, at Coffee Park, by themselves and not be wracked by worry.

Is this the same guy who panhandles wearing a hat, and fakes severe leg disabilities? My wife saw him walking around quite normally in the Macaroni Grill parking lot yesterday after she twice saw him earlier in the day “barely able to walk” at the NW Hwy/Preston intersection.

I live very close to Coffee Park and I think it’s a fabulous use of city funds. My son’s best friend is wheelchair bound, a park where kids like him can have access and play? Priceless. And saying it’s location makes it “dangerous”? Absurd, sheer lunacy.

The University Park Police Department has no reports of pedophiles at or near Coffee Park. If you have knowledge of criminal activity at the park or nearby, please inform the Police Department.

Given your last few blog posts, it is clear that you are angry with the City’s recent expenditures for various park improvements. Candidly, you are not the first resident to voice displeasure over the re-do of Hitzelberger Park. Regarding recent enhancements at Coffe Park and the Holmes Aquatic Center, City Hall has received nothing but postive remarks from residents young and old concerning the improvements made.

Concerning your tax dollars and property tax revenue: Of the three taxing jurisdictions within the City’s boundaries — The City, Dallas County, and HPISD — the City portion comprises 14% of a resident’s total tax bill. That 14% funds services and amenities (public safety, public works, parks)that are the envy of most communities in North Texas.

Y’all have to be kidding me…. This guy hanging around our neighborhood is the least of our safety concerns.
Imagine if U.P. had an idea to build a huge, high-profile, amusement park-type playground right next to the busiest thoroughfare serving the high crime areas of east and west Dallas…and how many criminals, pedophiles and undesirables would be attracted to our neighborhood to spend time around our children (like throwing out chum in the water)? Gosh, can you imagine?
Oh, sorry, this just in: U.P. has actually done this already. Watch your children closely at our new Coffee Park (serving all of Dallas County), because other people are watching them too.

We saw him at Caruth Park a couple weeks ago – he stopped and asked if we wanted our windows washed. I had seen him on this blog so I knew immediately who it was but I wasn’t sure what I was supposed to do. If you see him or if he solicits you is the response to ignore or contact the authorities?
