Tacos and Yogurt, Anyone?

The successor to  the drive-in bank phenomenon is a combination of tacos and frozen yogurt places.  Remember how,  just recently, it seemed that all new construction in Dallas County was geared toward branch banks?  Well, now, 395 of the 400 new businesses opened in and within a five-mile radius of the PC in the last six months are either a taco or frozen yogurt joint.  (Actual numbers estimated based on recent drives through the area).

Surely someone has introduced a frozen yogurt taco by now, haven’t they?

    Yogurt was last year. Tacos is this year. Next year: BankBucks: Coffee while you Bank.

    Hi Charles, D Magazine’s SideDish did a rather unscientific study of these “trends” a few weeks ago. We also look at the trendiness of CupCakes and Cakeballs.     I noticed another yogurt shop going into Snider Plaza a few days ago. It’s too much yogurt. I would rather have a really good ice cream shop. I want a hot fudge sundae. Not a $5.00 tart yogurt with Fruity Pebbles, coconut and juju bears on it. Yuck.

    And now Pinkberry on Greenville, and Yogalicious in Snider Plaza coming soon..and I’ve seen a few more…

    my wife, probably close to your demographic, likes urban tacos. Sobrosos on Maple is great, but knowing a touch of spanish helps.

    Just curious, has anyone tried the new restaurant “DIVE” that took the place of the old Balls spot?

    Snyder plaza needs another family friendly dinner spot…don’t you think?

    dive is a good place.

    Since we are going back through old retail chain trends, I recall that the yogurt trend of the late 80s (led by TCBY and I Can’t Believe…) was followed by the bagel shops of the early 90s (only Einsteins remains from Brueggers, Benny’s, etc)

    I agree with this assessment. It’s all tacos and yoghurt. Barriers to entry are low meaning more competition will drive half of them out of business in the next 24 months. Poor landlords are desperate for tenants.
