I’m Outing Myself as Bad Speller
Signing off on a newspaper that you’ve slaved over for hours is a good feeling. Spotting a misspelled word as soon as said newspaper rolls off the press is a bad feeling. Merritt Patterson triumphantly returned to the pages of Park Cities People this week, and I welcomed her back by misspelling “ouster” as “outster” in one of the headlines above her column. D’oh! My only saving grace is that, since her column was about a gay Cub Scout leader, some readers might think I was making an intentional pun, albeit a bad one.

In all seriousness, I’m sure you’re a very nice guy who knows his job. But the paper has seemed slapped together like a drunken afterthought ever since Jason Heid took over. I realize were not taking about the New York Times, but there’s “lighthearted stance,” and then there’s “complete joke.” No more “5 Free Weeks” promotions to litter my yard, please. If the paper ever returns to even bare minimum editorial standards, I’ll be more than happy to subscribe again. I don’t need a gimmick. I need a community paper worthy of this community.
