Fox Alert!

That’s right, at around 8:55 PM tonight, in the 3700 block of Wentwood, I, and the four other people in my car, observed a fox crossing the street in front of us, heading from north to south. We couldn’t all have been drunk, so I’m confident in this observation.

@BM, funny! How cool to see a fox in the city; loved the hawk pics from last week, too.

No, no, BM, you’re thinking of a cougar.

Was it followed by local bluebloods on horses with hounds?

Very cool Charles. I have a photo of a red fox in my backyard – so they’re out there!

How big was it? My husband says it might have been a coyote – foxes are very small, the size of a house cat:

There are two large coyotes that I know of in UP. They are large and no way can one mistake them for a fox. If you see them and do your best coyote howl, they will howl back. I know they are in the neighborhood from 12am-3am only if the UP Fire Department is on a call with their sirens on. When that happens, the coyotes howl along.

Someone told me they have seen coyotes licking the grease traps behind Bubba’s and Kuby’s.

We’ve seen coyotes, 2 of them together, twice in past 2-3 months. Both times it was early morning, around 5:30A, before sunrise. Once was on Greenbrier at Lomo Alto, the second at Caruth park near the pond.

Saw a big Grey Coyote on the 3rd at about 8 near Golf and McFarlin… really creepy. Watch out cats.

What we saw was definitely a fox, so, along with the coyotes, it sounds like we have quite the diversity of wildlife in the PC. And let’s not forget the raccoons, opossums, and, um what am I leaving out?

Squirrels, rats, and mice. I think that’s it for mammals. But I’ve had this song in my head since Charles’ first post on this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2MDCbIhTa_w&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Yep, 1635, I was the lead singer for that band. Or did I play guitar? It’s all a blur.
