Fire Damages Home on Milton

University Park spokesman Steve Mace sends word of a house fire in the 3500 block of Milton. The city’s 911 dispatch center was alerted by the home’s security system at 5:35 a.m.  Heavy smoke was coming from the home when the first fire units arrived. University Park firefighters were assisted by their peers from Highland Park and Dallas.

Two adults and three children were home at the time, but all five escaped without injury, Mace said. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.

The home was monitored by the city’s Direct Alarm service. Direct Alarm offers residents the opportunity to have their home security systems monitored directly from University Park’s police and fire dispatch center.

UPDATE: From Steve Mace at 4:24 p.m.: “The source of the fire was a natural-gas feed to the home’s living room fireplace. Due to extensive fire, smoke, and water damage, the home may be a total loss.”

How frightening and awful. I’m glad they had the city monitored fire/burglar alarm system and that they’re all right. Mr. Mace, let us know if there’s anything the family needs from the community, we’re here for them.
