More Phone Books? C’mon Guys.

Two giant phone books left on every porch in the Park Cities earlier this week- clearly not enough as evidenced by another bin filler waiting for residents yesterday.

Dear City of University Park,

I mean, seriously. I don’t believe for a minute that you can’t excercise some power here. How much money do we spend gathering and getting rid of these ridiculous books? Some research please.

    Merritt, maybe the “Neighborhood Integrity Nazi, sorry, I mean Officer” should address the situation. Lord knows she has pestered many of us about “horrible infractions” including garages that need repair, trash can lids that are not secured and the most heinous of all infractions is not having your address in …”At least three (3) inches high and constructed of non-destrucible, bright material or be painted on a permanent structure. Such numbers shall not be located more than ten (10) feet from the rear property line…”. Clearly we are a neighborhood of serious criminals.

    Amen, Merritt. These are literally being walked from the front porch straight out to the alley trash cans, still sealed in their tacky orange day-glo bags. I really wish we didn’t get these.

    I used the “tacky orange day-glo bag” to store some christmas lights in, after walking the books to the alley trash can.

    An e-mail exchange with AT&T’s public relations department yielded this tidbit: “Customers can alter the number of directories they receive from AT&T. As such, we’ve taken a very proactive approach to meeting those needs by giving consumers the ability to choose what directories they want or don’t want by contacting us on the web at http://www.att.com/mydirectories, or calling 1-866-329-7118.”
    And a tip, to boot: “Customers wishing to stop delivery should enter zero in the quantity next to each directory title to help ensure their request is submitted correctly.”

    @Miles — You just brought back a memory that I hadn’t thought about in years! We used those phone books/yellow pages as booster seats at the table all the time when I was a kid! I don’t even remember the last time I saw someone do that.

    Before you all pitch the phone books into the BLUE BIN (recycle please), note that AT&T got smart and put a CD-ROM with the White and Yellow pages on it, eliminating the need for the books. Perhaps they are planning to phase out books next year… now if we can eliminate the Verizon books, we’ll be in better shape.
