Rise and Shine, Park Cities (01-24-11)
1. HPHS junior David Allen became a local varsity basketball legend recently when he scored 53 points in a single game. Park Cities residents celebrated in unison for a sec before splitting up into teams over a statement made to ESPN by an excited coach.
“I have a man-crush on him,” said Highland Park head coach David Piehler. “He’s awesome.”
The link has been forwarded around town and discussed by moms readers who are feeling a bit creeped out by Piehler’s choice of words. Ladies, OMG, how do I say this? Ok, I’ve got it: Please. Stop. You’re dragging all of the hip, urban women down with you. Piehler declaring a man-crush is the ultimate compliment. MAN-crush. That’s lingo specific to the ESPN demographic. Use it in a sentence and your husband will buy you shoes.
2. So let’s say you’re a real estate agent and you want to sell the Park Cities to out-of-town buyers. Your pitch would be easy, right? I mean, all you’d have to do is tell them that thing about how there’s no poor children enrolled in HPISD.
Since no poor people of any measurable amount live in the Park Cities, no poor children are enrolled in Highland Park ISD.
And just in case that didn’t seal the deal, you’d throw in a joke about Jewish people. No?
3. I bought a little taste of victory at the Snider Plaza Tom Thumb yesterday. Oh. Yeah.

Shocking really.
The schools are the selling point but they have plenty of substandard teachers and other quality issues. However, your kid will get to go to school with kids like those who go private if they live in DISD.
I’m surprised Mr. Cherry thinks honesty will sell. Most parents who move here for the schools want to believe the schools themselves are of the highest quality, not just good by public school standards.
He leaves out a simple fact when comparing the PC to Dallas. In Dallas, you get more square feet and land for the same money spent in UP/HP. Some people prefer to have a bigger house; some people prefer to have better public schools and city services.
Those Jewish “observations” are old and tired sayings from the 70s. *Yawn* Jews will always be a minority in the PC, but if you have a seventh grader at HPMS, chances are they’ll get invited to at least one bar/bat mitzvah.
Also, there are no poor people, just poor word choices made by people.
*I have disabled comments on this post after four very vile and unsigned ones were posted. I accept disagreement. I do not accept disagreement from unidentified people, and under no circumstances do I accept ones with profane language. In this case, I removed those comments.”
Now, a MAN CRUSH? that might drive down real estate.

What’s wrong with white people having a nice place to live?
Like it or not, white-guilt liberals, the SINGLE BEST INDICATOR of the level of violent crime in a neighborhood is that neighborhood’s percentage of blacks and latinos.

Homicides in Dallas Texas – 2008
Race of Suspect – # of Homicides – Percentage
White – 9 = 6%
Black – 72 = 47%
Hispanic – 24 = 16%
Unknown – 49 = 32%
Therefore, even if the every single one of the 49 “unknown” murderers (no snitchin’ yo!) were whites, the black murderers would still outnumber them!!!!!
To really put it in the proper perspective:

Dallas Population Racial Data:
Hispanic – 547,781 (44.6%)
White – 355,922 (29.0%)
