Rise and Shine, Park Cities (1-25-11)

1. Highland Park Town Council could soon hire an “architectural consultant” to, um, consult on the town hall and DPS renovation. Councilmembers voted last night to hire the consultant, who would work in conjunction with project architects RPGA.

The council capped the consultant’s fees at $25,000, but Mayor Bill Seay admitted, “Actually, we have no idea yet,” how much of the $25,000 cap would be used.

The council will hold a work session about the project Feb. 3.

2. Looking for something fun to do Thursday? Do you like ping pong? (If you answered “no” to question 1, question 2, or both, skip ahead.) Head to Brackets in Hotel Palomar to see an exhibition by the Texas Wesleyan Table Tennis team, winners of 41 National Championships in the last nine years.

Is the math a little sketchy on that? Sure! But it should be fun.

3. Potter’s House founder Bishop TD Jakes is the guest speaker for SMU’s Tate Lecture Series tonight at 8 p.m. in McFarlin Auditorium. According to SMU’s web site, tickets are still available, so call 214-768-8283 to get yours.

4. Cruising the streets today, looking for lunch? Head up 75 to Forest Lane, where Which Wich is opening its newest shop. Doors open at 10:30; no word on any freebies, but, hey it couldn’t hurt to ask.

    Maybe with the added consultant oversight we won’t have to re-letter or re-do the entire renovation over again a la the not a park-park.

    No news about the Green Bay Packers practicing at SMU and the high school practice facility? In most cities that would be big news. Cheese Heads will be elbow to elbow trying to get a glimpse.

    My husband said that one team has rented the SMU football facilities for practice and that barriers of some sort had been put up to block the view of those practices?

    HPHS’s new indoor practice facility will be used by the Packers in the event of inclement weather.
