Few Underachievers Live in the Park Cities

The real estate agent we discussed Monday must have received a bit of feedback. He’s disabled comments to his blog entry about there being “no poor children enrolled in HPISD.” He’s also changed the wording. (I don’t make this stuff up, people.)

Since few under achievers live in the Park Cities, the academic records of the Highland Park ISD are excellent. 

Bill, dude, just say the schools are great. That’s all you need to say.

And you’ve still got that Jewish joke up.

    Yes, Bill – take down the Jewish “joke.” Getting it from your “Jewish friends” doesn’t make it any less offensive. It simply reinforces old, inaccurate stereotypes. What would your website visitors think if “Jewish” was replaced with “Baptist” or “Catholic?” Hmmm…

    I’m sorry, is that Jewish joke offensive? Doesn’t seem to be to me. And if it is, why do you keep linking to it?

    The guy made a poor choice of words, seems to be a pretty decent guy. Let it go.

    Frankly, I didn’t think it was offensive at all. Even if it was about Baptists or Presbyterians or whatever it wouldn’t have offended me. But, maybe a little odd for a realtor’s website! However, I have noticed other “interesting” tidbits on that guy’s website before as well..so..

    I still don’t get it. What’s wrong with saying there are no poor kids in HPISD? According to the TEA website, there are no economically disadvantaged students at HPHS (compared to DISD’s Hillcrest which is 58.9% economically disadvantaged, or RISD’s Lake Highlands which is 42.7% economically disadvantaged). Same website shows that the HPISD’s wealth per student based on average daily attendance is $1,714,000 per student for fiscal year 08-09. Compare to the DISD at $526,062 per student or RISD at $523,712 per student. It is what it is.

    I agree. Replace Jewish with Baptist or Catholic, or Irish, Italian, etc. and I would feel the same way.

    No problem if he is just stating facts. Facts, I have no problem with.

    But he’s using the lack of poor kids as a selling point. As he calls it, a “drawing card”.

    To be clear, the “lack of poor kids” comment, while true, is innappropriate, especially as you note when used as a “drawing card”.

    The Jewish joke? Not offensive.
