Football is Big in Texas, Says Wisconsin Paper, Just Look at HPHS

I figured the little Super-Bowl-comes-to-Dallas story from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel wouldn’t tell me anything new. I was certain it would color our fair burg with shades of Friday Night Lights. You have to dig a little bit, but the writer really captured what football is like at Highland Park High School:

The school’s head football coach, Randy Allen, wears a fedora during games, a bow to the memory of Landry.

Allen oversees a coaching staff of 15.

When he guided the school to its last state championship in 2005, there was a parade through town.

“We had people lining the streets,” Allen says.

The players know the importance of the sport.

“Every Friday night, the community kind of stops to watch the Scots play,” says Dalton Stogner, a junior wide receiver.

    Not so. Their plane just landed after 4PM. Maybe tomorrow!

    They are supposed to use it tomorrow. I guess they’re going to be out of it by 2:30 because in-season sports teams are going to be able to use it in the afternoon.
