Livin’ at the Cemetery in University Park

Would the cemetery at Airline and Milton impact your decision to buy a home nearby? There are some lovely houses with direct views of the graveyard and I’m just wondering, would it kind of creep you out? I’d be OK with a block or two away but any closer and I’d need to get rid of every television in the house.

    Here’s an email I got from a client just the other day,

    “The town homes that you’ve been looking at are a bit too out of my location area. I love them, but I don’t think I would like to live around Oak Lawn/Lemmon area or on a cemetery. Sorta creepy. :) ”

    I think I would be fine with it but would probably have to deal with a lot of nightmares with little ones. Our six and four year old boys refer to that location as the “zombie field”.

    We looked at a house on Milton directly across from that cemetary last summer. Great house – no way for me, though! My husband was all for it because the price was great. Apparently not everyone feels the same as I do because that house sold within days of being put on the market.

    Is the water tower that overlooks the cemetery still there? I have a vague recollection of a jumper many years ago. Can’t recall if the teenager survived or not.

    No noise, no big brick wall next to you, nobody parked on the street on that side, the lots are bigger/deeper on that block, etc.! Back in the early 90′s we bid on the austin stone house that used to be right next door to that cemetery. We bid way below asking because of the location and they turned us down. We were worried though that our son would be known as the “boy who lived next door to the cemetery.”

    We live next door. Love it. Really cool at Halloween time. The kids don’t have any problem with it at all. As my mother always said: “it is not the dead ones you have to worry about……”
