Kershaw Donating Benjamins For K’s

Former Highland Park Scot Clayton Kershaw is hoping for a big season as he prepares to be the Opening Day starting pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday against the San Francisco Giants.

Kershaw and his wife Ellen Melson Kershaw are launching “Kershaw’s Challenge — Strikeout to Serve.” For every strikeout Clayton throws this season, he will donate $100 toward building an orphanage in Lusaka, Zambia, through Arise Africa.

The Kershaws visited Zambia in January on a mission trip. The goal is to raise $70,000 to build the orphanage.

He’s trying to raise $70,000, but is only donating $100 per strikeout. That means he’s aiming for 700 Ks this year. That would be quite a record.

I’m pretty sure he’s counting on other donations, too.

What an awesome thing he’s doing! Nice to hear about his efforts when we’ve been bombarded with Dez Bryant issues. Glad to see Clayton appears to be using his success to do great things!
