Flow Society Has Local Boys in a Fashion Frenzy

Here’s an idea. I’m going to take a basic pattern for lacrosse shorts but I’m going to jack ‘em up with crazy pictures of monkeys and rubber duckies and super random stuff. I’ll make them a bit baggier so that they hang below the knee and I’ll sell them for $32.99 each. Every boy from kinder thru 12th will buy several pairs. Sounds nutty, eh?

Well Flow Society pulled it off and Not Just Soccer has got to be thrilled about that. No lacrosse team necessary, strictly fashion. Find one boy in HPISD who doesn’t have a pair and he’ll tell you he’s been begging for some.

    Have not seen any of these shorts at HPHS. Mainly younger boys. 7th/8th graders are not allowed to wear them to school.

    Dad: No, Flow Society shorts. You know “flow” fashion, Lacrosse.
    Son: Basketball shorts. (look of disdain) Besides, I play football.
    Dad: Not interested?
    Son: No. Besides, you can’t wear them in the middle school.

    They’re incredibly popular in the elementary schools and 5th and 6th grades. I’m taking pictures of my 4th-grader in his, so I can embarrass him at his rehearsal dinner.

    So hideous. Especially when worn with argyle knee socks and day-glo sneakers. Take photos now, they will be worth a goldmine in bribes down the line.

    I wonder if all the boys in their black athletic socks know how much they resemble grandpas mowing their lawn in yesteryear.

    Also, I did take a photo of an SMU student the other day wearing turquoise and black striped shirt, turquoise and black plaid shorts and turquoise and black argyle socks pulled up to his knees!

    My son has this exact pair and loves them! And to think that last year I couldnt get him to wear a LSU shirt because it had “girl colors!” That would be purple! The more purple and pink the better for some reason with these lacrosse shorts. Yes, saving the pictures!

    I know of three boys who def would NOT be caught dead in those “shorts” … the younger one just shakes his head at the boys in day glo…much like James described above.
    Now, they do wear black socks. But mainly (manly?) only black, navy, white and grey clothes with the occasional gold HP. A self imposed uniform. Nothing clashes, nothing girly like a monkey on their skort oops I mean shorts.

    One of the best 3rd grade boys I know commented to me: “only the mean kids wear those”.

    That is not true at all. I know for a fact that some of the kindest 3rd grade boys at Bradfield wear them all the time. Remember not to judge a book by it’s cover! Maybe the best 3rd grade boy you know needs a little lesson in judging people :)

    It is a silly, fun phase. Boys don’t get many chances to step out of the style box or even care to. Let them have fun!

    What’s the big deal? I can’t remember how many pairs of Jams I had in high school, on top of the typical khaki and plaid shorts from Culwell and the Polo shop. I’m sure my granny thought the world was about to end.

    Now if we can just get these kids to pull their pants up…
