Rise and Shine, Park Cities (6-15-11)

1. Congrats to Dr. P. Gregory Warden, distinguished professor of art history and associate dean for academic affairs at SMU’s Meadows School of the Arts for getting a pretty big nod from Italy’s president. Warden, who was knighted on June 4, is a native of the Mediterranean country famous for its museums and delicious pasta dishes.

2. The Highland Park High School boys Cross Country team has a new set of captains. Big ups to Glenn Wolfe, Preston Smith, Brandon Shirk, Davis Bateman, and Ben Clapp!

3. Jeff Barrows teaches AP and talented-and-gifted physics at Highland Park High School. He’s been with the district going on 14 years, but throughout that time he’s inspired students of all stripes. So it’s no wonder that a HPHS student nominated Barrows for the PC-TAG Teacher of the Year. And folks, he won. This is what the anonymous student had to say about his teacher: “Mr. Barrows has worked harder to foster my love of his subject than any other teacher.  He shows unparalleled dedication to teaching and an enthusiasm both for his students and for his subject.”

Now that’s a compliment!
