Friends, PR Community Mourn Sweeney

Turtle Creek resident Julia Sweeney — longtime PR professional, Times Herald society columnist, and namesake of the Julia Sweeney Talk Series — has died. An acquaintance of Sweeney’s told me it happened in the past few days, and I gather she’ll be dearly missed.

If you’re curious about Sweeney’s writing job (I was) this 1981 D Magazine story lends more dirt than she may have cared to share. Sounds like she was quite a character, not to mention tolerant of snarky reporters.

UPDATE: As of Friday morning, I’ve still heard nothing solid about funeral arrangements. Alan Peppard has posted a detailed obit, though.

    Julia Sweeney was a consummate professional, kind and generous person and a joy to know. She was my revered colleague and trusted friend. I respected and loved Julia and will miss her warmth, charming wit, gracious sparkle, and the genuine smile she had for everyone. Now, heaven has one of the best. -Dedie Leahy
