Our Very Own Dan Branch Makes ‘Texas Monthly’ Best List

State Rep. Dan Branch, R-University Park, was recognized in Texas Monthly‘s Best and Worst list as an ace legislator. The mostly glowing review of Branch’s work included nuggets like this:

Branch will never be one of the more popular members. His role is that of a man apart, like a senator in the House. He represents Highland Park, one of the wealthiest areas in the state, and, like [House Speaker Joe] Straus, he is just too smart, successful, and straitlaced to be one of the boys. Political savants have long believed that he harbors ambitions for higher office, presumably attorney general.

    Solid guy who has led his family while representing his constituents and paying the bills. Really impressive. May he keep that balance and success.

    Is the Texas Monthly list legit? Or is it like D Magazine where you pay to have your name exalted?

    The editors of D spell this out every time they list the best doctors, lawyers, etc., but let’s say it again here: Buying an ad does not get you on the list. Once the list is created, the sales staff is allowed to sell ads to those doctors, lawyers, etc., who are on it.

    All do respect…
    My brother was approached to have his business touted as “Best in Dallas”.
    $5,000 and it would seal the deal. It was nudge-nudge, wink-wink.
    This isn’t hearsay or innuendo.
    He declined and…holy crap! His business wasn’t a Best in Dallas.
    I’m not into “gotcha”. I have no hidden agenda.
    What’s right is right and what’s wrong is wrong.
