John Wiley Price Cancels Rotary Presentation On-Site
What do Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price and Park Cities People columnist Merritt Patterson have in common? They’ve both had the Brett Shipp Ambush (sorry, Merritt).
Price made it to Maggiano’s for today’s Park Cities Rotary meeting, according to new club president Jim Mills. Then he canceled.
“There was a representative of the media downstairs,” said Mills, who happened to be leading a Rotary meeting for the first time, “and whatever transpired between those two entities is the reason we don’t have a speaker.” Publicity chair Kirby Warnock checked into it for me, and confirmed said reporter was Channel 8’s Brett Shipp. Who wasn’t, you know, invited.
Rotarian Nolan Duck worked the event into the club’s regular invocation later, praying that “whatever it was [to drive Price away] not sour his view of this club or this group of people.”

Did Price actually tell the group how he felt?
I hope Nolan Duck was trying to be funny. The good opinion of John Wiley Price is the last thing any decent person should care about having.
And if Brett Shipp’s version of events is correct and the Rotarians tipped off the media to JWP’s appearance, then Duck’s little prayer was downright hypocritical. (That being said, journalists – like the politicians they cover – often are notorious liars).
Perhaps everyone needs to take a deep breath and repeat this from Rotary International: The Four-Way Test…
Of the things we think, say or do
1.Is it the TRUTH?
2.Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3.Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4.Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
