Know a Mother-Daughter Belle Duo?

I’m working on a story this week about the Highland Belles: a fun story, centered around the drill team’s many traditions, and the fact that it seems to have its first mother-daughter duo in University Park residents Kelley Rather, nee Kelley Rule (’87), and her daughter Taylor, a junior this year.

Meanwhile, Dan Koller just told me a cautionary tale about his time at the Dallas Morning News. Seems a pair of mother-daughter cheerleaders in Rockwall weren’t the high school’s first, despite an article highlighting them as such. I mean, they certainly thought they were the only ones — until another pair of women stepped forward. Oops (goes the reporter).

So. Does anyone know a former Belle whose daughter is or has been on the team? My hunch is that the Rathers hold the sole honor, and we’re writing about them, regardless. But it never hurts to double check.

What year did the Belles start? The HP Alumni Association office holds all sorts of information.

The Belles were chartered in 1983. And you’re absolutely right, HPHS Mom, about the alumni association. Director Jenni Scoggins was even expecting my call (she really was!) thanks to your comment above.
