Eagle Flies Outside District’s Borders

My cubicle is decorated with maps of University Park, Highland Park, and Highland Park ISD. Each of these municipalities has clearly defined boundaries. That’s why I was confused yesterday afternoon when I saw a “Home of an Armstrong Eagle” sign in a yard west of the Highland Park town limits. Heck, the homes in the portion of Highland Park that’s west of the Tollway aren’t even in the school district. How is a kid living in Dallas going to Armstrong?

    There are Dallas homes in HPISD, but I think they are all next to NW area of UP.

    Any home with a 7000 address is in Dallas, but zoned to UP Elem.

    Does anyone know why houses in the 7000 blocks of Dallas go to HPISD, when HP residents west of the tollway do not?

    I meant NE, not NW. @XT. The school district is a separate entity, different boundaries, probably Tollway (old rail line) to Central. The cities don’t stop at those boundaries.

    It’s the I in HPISD….independent. That’s why city boundaries don’t matter.

    @June Cleaver. Unless something’s changed, they need to rent in the district while the house is built. School districting is based on residency rules–spending x number of nights/week in a district–not owning land or building a house there.

    So, DemBones, the trick, as it were, for a single parent wanting to get his or her child into HPISD is to sleep around in the district on a regular basis? Just wondering.

    @Charles, nope, be married and living in PC and then if you divorce, one parent still has to live in PC.

    You can rent outside while building but you can only live outside the district for three months during school. Gotta get the house up quickly starting in the summer or rent in the District.

    Or, receive your mail at the build/remodel/UPS store in HPV and no one knows any better. We knew several families in the past 8 years that lived in Apts. condos, rent houses surrounding the ISD while under construction and survived with don’t ask/don’t tell. If you are a long term Parkie are you really going to put your kids in DISD for a 9-18 month building project? Not likely.

    I would like to see the respective city councils work on attempting to align the various political boundaries so that HPISD includes all of HP and UP. That would mean moving the Dallas and UP boundary so that some of the “HPISD, but not City of UP” homes would now be in Dallas. And moving the ISD lines so that the “HP, but not HPISD” line would now be in HPISD.

    Not easy to do, certainly. But in the long run (decades and decades), it would be worth it.

    maybe one of the parents work for the district(if you work for HPISD,your kids can go to school in the district)I use to send my kids to Frisco schools when I use to work for Frisco isd
