Zeus Comics to Host ‘Daredevil’ Writer Mark Waid

Just outside the western border of Highland Park sits Zeus Comics. If you’re there between 1 and 5 p.m. on Saturday, you’ll probably see me. Because that’s when the store will be hosting acclaimed writer Mark Waid. I’ve been buying comics for more than 25 years, but the only series I’m buying consistently these days is Waid’s imaginative and entertaining relaunch of Daredevil. A few months ago, I cleaned out the bulk of my collection, saving only the comics that I thought I might like to read again some day. Among those were Waid’s work on Kingdom Come and his first run at Captain America.

    Wow, I’d love to see the comic shop that you frequent. Angels must feed you foie gras sandwiches and glasses of unicorn tears there, followed by a nice buttocks massage. Personally, nice decor, good organization, a non-nerd smell and a super friendly and knowledgeable staff make Zeus my favorite. But, they don’t have butt-massaging angels, either.

    What on earth is mundane about Zeus comics? Have you been to any other comic shops in the metroplex? Obviously not. Zeus is a great shop with everything a true comic book reader and fan would love. Besides the fact that its very well designed and focuses all it’s energy on making comic book readers not feel like they are inside someone’s basement filled with moldy disorganized long boxes. Side note: Zeus is the only shop in the ENTIRE metroplex that brings in guests of Mark Waid’s caliber to meet and interact with fans. God bless Zeus Comics for being the shinning light in the DFW comic book community. Look up mundane and re-familiarize yourself with that word. Mundane – common; ordinary; banal; unimaginative. That does not describe Zeus at all.

    Angie, I must assume that your tongue was planted firmly in your cheek with that comment :) Zeus is an amazing store at which I have been proud to have shopped for the last eleven years. From day one Richard and Barry have been consistently kind, helpful, and tolerant of my varied idiosyncrasies. The store has won numerous accolades and awards, among them the 2006 Will Eisner “Spirit of Retailing” Award. Zeus has something for everyone; it is in many ways more of a pop culture store than it is the stereotypical comic shop. I strongly encourage everyone who reads this to visit Zeus and see what it has to offer.

    Don’t go to Zeus this Saturday to see Mark Waid (or Dan Koller, for that matter). Go to Zeus this Saturday because it’s a great store and a great way to pass the time on a lazy weekend. Waid is a delightful added bonus. Take your kids. Take your dogs. Say “Hi” to Richard and Barry; tell them an anonymous voice on the internet sent you!

    Visit Zeus! You won’t regret it!
