Backyard Chicken Debate Heads to Council Tonight
As Dan mentioned yesterday, the chickens are coming.
University Park resident Dominique Miller petitioned the city to allow for backyard hens, which was allowed until May 2008. The meeting kicks off at 5 p.m.; for more information about the ordinance, check out tonight’s agenda.

More code enforcement to our already burdened city. I already support everyone else’s kids with the school tax, I do not want to pay for policing chickens too.
I can only hope our fine city council votes against chickens in the backyard. The argument that “Dallas allows it” is not compelling. When did we pick Dallas as the model city for UP to follow?
Folks, its just chickens. A few would probably be ok (hens). By the way “Leslie”, and without being disrespectful to your comments, we all pay the school tax whether we have kids or not.
Looking back growing up, I had a lunch card that afforded me to eat lunch. Thanks to those that did pay school taxes, i’m grateful today. It’s the circle of favor. Look at it this way, maybe one of the kids your taxes help support may in turn be in a profession that may save your life someday (i.e, police officer or doctor, to name a few). There’s a bigger picture. Nothing more mean’t by my comment.
