Texas QB to Transfer to SMU, SMU to Join Big East?
Injured Texas QB Garrett Gilbert will transfer to SMU, sources told ESPN’s Joe Schad Tuesday.
Gilbert lost the starting job in Austin after two games this season, then underwent season-ending shoulder surgery. UT fans will remember Gilbert fondly for his valiant effort in the 2010 BCS Championship Game, when he replaced injured starter Colt McCoy in the first quarter.
Gilbert would have to sit out next season due to eligibility concerns, and would then have one year of eligibility remaining.
In other SMU news, the Big East invited the school — plus Central Florida, Houston, Boise State, Air Force and Navy, in varying capacities — to join its league Tuesday, the Associated Press reported.
As David Bowie said (on one of the greatest records ever recorded): Ch-ch-changes.

I’m glad SMU will keep playing Houston in conference play. It’s a great in-state rivarly.
