Highland Park football head coach Randy Allen will see a doctor today about scheduling ankle surgery after he was injured in a car accident in Waco on Friday night.

Allen, 61, was riding in a car with his wife driving and his daughter in the back seat following the Scots’ 42-39 playoff loss to John Tyler at Waco ISD Stadium. They were following a Highland Park charter bus when their vehicle was struck from behind on New Road, near the stadium.

Allen said both his daughter and wife escaped with only some soreness, but he sustained two compress fractures in his lower back and some broken bones in his ankle. Allen said he went to the emergency room in Waco and got back home at 5 a.m.

“I had just picked up a box lunch the players were eating because I hadn’t eaten since noon,” Allen said. “I was eating in the front seat, and I guess I didn’t have my safety belt buckled. When the car hit us, I guess I went forward and pushed my feet on the floor board to keep me from going through the windshield.”

Hopefully the accident didin’t hurt their quarterback Brady’s collarbone injury any further.

My prayers for a successful surgery and quick recovery, Coach! Take the time to rehab fully so you can prepare for 2012.

The bigger question here, is why wasn’t Coach Allen on the bus with his players?

And why was the quarterback in the car with the coach instead of on the team bus?

And why was his seat belt off? Really?? No one else in the car was injured…. goes to show.

Eating a boxed lunch is absolutely no excuse not to wear a seat belt.
