Preston Road Paving to Start, Again

Remember when traffic was all jacked up for a few months because of construction on Preston? Then remember those couple recent weeks when it wasn’t? Kiss ’em goodbye.

Repaving will begin this week on the intersection of Preston Road and Beverly Drive, after the town decided the asphalt was substandard. Work was slated to begin today and stretch through Thursday, but the weather has delayed it. It will commence when the rain ends, presumably.

Godspeed.

What was “substandard” about the asphalt? The actual asphalt itself or the work performed? Who was the paving contractor used? Does the city or the contractor cover the re-paving costs?

I understand there was an issue with the asphalt blend; I believe the paving contractor’s name is “Reliable”; and last, I understand the contractor will pay.

The HP engineering department has done an outstanding job. A special thanks to Jim Vermillion (the HP construction coordinator) who is a hard worker, very nice, and a town asset.
