When I lived in Austin, our neighbor had 4 fancy hens. No smell, and the clucking was quiet enough that you couldn’t hear it unless next to the coop. As tk noted, a hen is less imposing than a dog, and I’d say that 4 hens is less imposing than even my sweet lab mix. I suspect the city counsel vote was ill informed.

umm, them chickens sure would (chuckling) really messed up the values (chuckling, harder) and tradition. sure would-ent want that messed up (chuckling, can’t stop).

I live in a HP house that was built in 1918. I know this house has had chickens and probably horses. While I think it would be difficult to board a horse, I think it’s completely practical for a family to have a chicken coop. Maybe have a limit of 3 or 4 hens. I don’t see any harm in it.
Hens don’t poop in neighbors yards, bark or bite. But dogs do and the council would never forbid dogs.
