SMU Student Sexually Assaulted on Campus

SMU police and surrounding departments are on the lookout for a man who sexually assaulted a student as she walked on campus Monday night.

According to a police report, the woman was walking on the northwest side of campus when the assault occurred. A campus wide alert was sent out and the case is still under investigation by SMU police

SMU Police Chief Richard Shafer told the Dallas Morning News at 9:10 p.m., the student was approached from behind by a man who grabbed her and forced her into the bushes.

The attacker was described as a white man wearing a dark hoodie, dark jeans and dark-colored tennis shoes who spoke with a deep, raspy voice, according to the report.

    Sloppy journalism should be called out. If Mr. Plock doesn’t have the writing/proofing skills the job requires, he should consider further training or a different job.

    The word is “unnecessary.” The critique is necessary, though. Writers’ business is to allow the reader to focus not on grammar and spelling but on content. The way to do so is to write clearly, with correct grammar, spelling, and syntax.

    My main issue with the post is that I find it mildly upsetting that people are so quick to critique each other on the incident. In this case especially as it takes away from an important subject. I hope the girl who was assaulted is not reading these comments thinking, “I was sexually assaulted and all these people can talk about is grammar.” For that I apologize because my comment caused the preceding ones.
