Despite an amazing effort by SMU’s defense, the Ponies miss out on upsetting TCU in the Battle for the Iron Skillet for the second year in a row with a 24-16 loss.

As if SMU’s struggling offense needed more to deal with, the heavy rain at Ford Stadium didn’t help either. Garrett Gilbert was 15 of 40 with 190 yards, five interceptions, and a touchdown. But again he and the offense couldn’t connect to capitalize on the big stops and turnovers by the SMU defense.

The Ponies(1-3) open up conference play next week at UTEP.
