Tell Us What You Think of Our New Look

For the past few years, this website has been little more than a blog. But this week we’ve started putting some of our print content online. I’ve been getting feedback — some good, some bad — in the comments on various blog posts and news stories. But let’s put in all one spot. What do you like? What do you not like?

    It just seems off a little, sure it will get better with time. Not sure why you just don’t put the print content in the blog unless you are going to start charging for that content at some point. Where did the recent comment section on the right go?

    Sorry, I dont like the new format. For example, I have been looking at the site for the last few days thinking that something happened to my computer. I just now noticed that your question “Tell Us What You Think of Our New Look?” was listed on the bottom of the page. Thumbs down.

    One suggestion: put the latest blog entries at the top of the page. That’s what the daily/repeat visitors are looking for anyway. Right now the blog posts are hidden at the bottom. It’s great that you’re putting some print content on the site, but I’m guessing it will only be updated weekly so once we’ve read it, it’s done.

    Now, it’s another click to get to the blog, which is what we all want to see. Miss recent comments–please bring back. Regarding the masthead, I like the bigger title, but it’s too large now and the easy access to all the tabs is gone. The ones remaining above the title are too tiny and hard to see. I’m sure we’ll get used to it, but I much prefer the other format.

    I read the paper, so, I visit the web site for the blog and the comments.
    Like the old format better. Might just take some getting used to.

    I think that the new format is a step forward. The same old formats we have been looking at gets old. At least you care enough about the paper to make it look it’s absolute best. Look who the target audience is! I and others feel this blog and newspaper is one of the best you could ever wish for. I do think you should add a Society Column That would draw a little more crowd.

    Dan, I’ve had a good chuckle. Interesting how Preston Hollow People and Oak Cliff People formats did not change.

    And yes Dan, where are those side comments? Funny how things disappear.

    The more I look at this, and the more I click between here and Preston Hollow People…the more I like the old format better.

    Back again. I don’t know what I just clicked on but I just now saw the photos and items from the 14th for the first time. It’s like things are hidden and we have to hunt them down. It looks like one of the 13 or 14 comments related to the change is positive. Just like “Makers Mark” I think you need to revert to the old content.

    Folks, we’ll restore the “recent comments” section ASAP.

    As for y’all’s other main complaint about wanting to see only the blog content, I have a simple solution: bookmark parkcitiespeople.com/category/blog.

    It’s not like I visit the main D Magazine page every time I want to check FrontBurner. In fact, I can’t remember the last time I was on the D Magazine home page, because I have FrontBurner bookmarked.

    Maybe put the 73 links that are currently on the masthead vertically on the left where there is nothing but beautiful open grey space.

    Sam,

    It’s a technology thing. We’ve yet to invest in the software that would allow us to establish a commenting system linked to Facebook or Twitter, as D Magazine has.

    Like you, I comment on blogs — all blogs — under my real name. I’m not going to throw something out there that I would be ashamed to read under the words “Dan Koller.” Alas, you and I are in the minority.

    Decent? As long as one behaves in a suitable manner, one should be able to maintain their privacy/ anonimity. If you want to put your name out there, fine, feel free.

    One very annoying thing is that when I try to scroll down the page to look at new comments, the site kicks me back up to the top of the page two or three times before it lets me scroll down. Don’t know if that is a byproduct of the new design or not.

    Dan, just require a real first and last name when someone post his/her comment on the PCP blog. I realize there may be a few questionable names, but most folks would appreciate the transparency and honesty.

    Whether the comment made is decent or demeaning, it would hold folks accountable. It’s kind of one sided for the PCP to only know who makes the comment. It just seems funny in a sense that someone could not post with a real first and last name. I believe if your uncomfortable posting with a real (and I stress your real name) first and last name, then that probably tell’s you not to post it.

    Dan, I disagree with Sam. I am posting under a moniker and there is nothing indecent about my post. @Sam, if you think it is one sided for the PCP to only know who makes the comment, you should probably start your own blog where you can make the rules instead of trying to force a private company to do your bidding.

    @Sam Tamborello, Free country, do what you want with your money. Until you own it, I’m sure PC People will continue to do the same.
