Plans For Spirit-Filled Weekend

It’s always good to start planning early, and in the Easter season spirit here are a few things churches have planned for this coming weekend:

Every Friday until Easter (except Good Friday), St. Michael’s and All Angels Episcopal Church presents the stations of the cross at 6 p.m. in the main sanctuary. Going to this somber event once a Lenten season is one of my family’s traditions. It’s a nice quiet way to thoughtfully consider the Passion of Christ.

For something light and upbeat, the Highland Park United Methodist Church’s NewSong Children’s Choir is performing “Life of the Party – The Story of Mary & Martha,” this Sunday at 4 p.m. Admission is free, but guests are asked to bring plastic baskets, plastic eggs, wrapped candy and other Easter goodies to donate. Check out a quick video preview here.

At Park Cities Presbyterian Church hear Vivaldi’s “Gloria” performed by the PCPC youth choirs, chamber orchestra, and adult ensemble at 7 p.m. Sunday in the main sanctuary. My uncles and cousins have performed with the PCPC choirs in the past and I’ve always been delighted by the choirs’ musical adeptness. Limited childcare is available if you RSVP by Friday.

What are some of your Lenten traditions? Does your church do something special to prepare for Easter?
