HP Film Fest Comes to a Musical Conclusion

The Highland Park Film Festival comes to an end this month with The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance tonight and The Sound of Music on Aug. 19 at the Highland Park Village Theater.

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance stars Jimmy Stewart and John Wayne, two of Hollywood’s most iconic leading men, in a Western directed by the legendary John Ford.

I haven’t ever seen this film, but the Library of Congress declared it “culturally, historically or aesthetically” significant when they added it to the National Film Registry in 2007.

I’m  not sure that The Sound of Music  needs any introduction. But just in case, the musical stars Julie Andrews as a nun hired to be the governess for the children of  an Austrian naval officer (Christopher Plummer) during the 1930s.  She changes their lives with music, love, and laughter. I can’t wait to see it on the big screen.

The doors open at 7 p.m., but show up early to get your free ticket. Last time I showed up at 6:55 p.m. and there were no tickets left.
