After suffering one of the most lopsided losses in school history in last week’s season opener against Aledo, Highland Park overcame a slow start Friday to roll to a 42-21 win over Monterrey (Mexico) Tec at Highlander Stadium.

Quarterback Brooks Burgin rushed for 156 yards and three touchdowns and passed for 273 yards and another score. Two of his touchdown runs were more than 40 yards.

“We are just getting comfortable with our play calls, getting used to playing with each other, and getting those first-game jitters out of the way,” Burgin said. “It feels great [to get the first win].”

The Scots, who also got a defensive touchdown from Mitchell Kaufman, will host Sherman at 7:30 p.m. next Friday to close out non-district play.
