SMU Meadows Has a Sweet October Lineup

Any time is the right time to feed your artistic side, but fall is especially great, because you’ve come inside from those hot, summer activities. The SMU Meadows Museum and School of the Arts have a number of great events lined up — too many to list all of them here. It was a hard decision, but here are my top five picks:

1. Pollock Gallery Exhibit: “Consuming (Interests): Photographs from Taos, New Mexico by Debora Hunter” — Many people know that SMU has a Taos campus that is wildly popular for summer classes. Check out the beautiful “cultural landscape” this SMU associate professor has captured. Through Oct. 12, Hughes-Trigg Student Center, free.

2. Rosine Smith Sammons Lecture in Media Ethics: Hugh Aynesworth: “How the JFK Assassination Changed North Texas Media” — Obviously I would find this interesting for personal reasons, but get ready for a number of JFK-related events across Dallas. This one sounds especially intriguing.  Oct. 2, Caruth Auditorium, free (but reserve in advance at 214-768-2787).

3. Play: The Women by Clare Booth Luce — My college roommate and I had a penchant for old movies, so my first familiarity with this play was the 1939 film. It’s a hoot; a comedy about female friendships and marriage in pre-World War Two America. Oct. 2-6, Owen Arts Center, $7-13.

4. Brown Bag Dance Concert — I had to get a Brown Bag in here. Students and teachers know this bi-annual event is a must see full of original choreography during your lunch hour. Oct. 7-11, Bob Hope Lobby, free.

5. Meadows Wind Ensemble: “The British Invasion” — Doesn’t this sound fun? British musical hits included range from classical to the rock-and-roll hits of the 1960s. Oct. 18, Caruth Auditorium, $7-13.
