Here’s Another Reason to Like Gilbert

Jeremy Gilbert took over Hyer Elementary School in 2008, the same year I took over Park Cities People, so I’ve always felt a kinship with the guy.

It helps that he has a sense of humor. As Georgia Fisher reported in a 2011 story about Gilbert’s weekly Q&A sessions during the morning announcements, he referenced Coming to America when asked about his hair-care regimen: “Only the finest fruits and berries.” And when I told him on the first day of this school year that my youngest brother is also an elementary principal, Gilbert told me, “I always sensed greatness near you.”

I’m sure the students and parents of Hyer also appreciate Gilbert’s willingness to don silly outfits on their behalf. This one’s to promote the school’s “Game On!” carnival, which is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Don’t miss it.
