Earrings designed by Chandler Cullum Nixon

If you haven’t finished your Christmas shopping or simply want to treat yourself, Park Cities native Chandler Cullum Nixon is selling her  jewelry from 7-9 tonight at Gemma Collection in Snider Plaza. Swing by for wine, a 20% discount and a good time.

When I ran into Nixon, a fellow Mystic girl, at a Friendsgiving party a few weeks ago and she told me about the show, I knew I had to share and that I needed to know more. Read on for a little Q&A with the designer.

Q: How long have you been making jewelry?
A: I’ve been making jewelry as long as I can remember really, but I started designing and selling to friends and family during college and never stopped. I’ve worked with six different jewelry designers starting with an internship in college, and have spent three years designing and running a production team for an Austin-based jewelry designer. When my husband and I moved back to the Park Cities to be closer our families, I started on my own line.

Q: Where do you find inspiration for your pieces?
A: I really wish I had a philosophical answer for this one, but honestly I just try to think about what I would want to give as a gift or what I think my sisters or friends would want to wear. Occasionally I dream about jewelry and that’s always fun.

Q: Is most of your jewelry designed for everyday, or for special occasions?
A: I try to mix everyday pieces with statement jewelry. Most of my jewelry is very dainty and even larger pieces are delicate. I do custom bridal party jewelry as well, which is so much fun because it’s such a happy day for that couple and always warms my heart.

Q: What kinds of materials do you use?
A: I use gold filled or sterling sivler wire and semiprecious gemstones for most of my work.

Q: Where is your jewelry sold normally?
A: Gemma Collection in Snider Plaza. I also sell through trunk shows, and have private viewings at my home for custom pieces.
