Bowen Leaving SMU For Presidential Post

Jose Antonio Bowen is leaving SMU to become the president of Goucher College, a small liberal-arts college in Baltimore.

The Preston Hollow resident currently serves as the dean, professor of music, and Algur H. Meadows Chair at SMU’s Meadows School of the Arts. He will start his new job on July 1.

Bowen is the author of Teaching Naked: How Moving Technology Out of Your College Classroom Will Improve Student Learning. The book recently won a Ness Award from the American Association of Colleges and Universities.

Bowen, who is a renowned jazz musician and holds four degrees from Stanford, has been in higher education since 1982. He also has taught at Stanford, Georgetown, Miami University, and the University of Southampton in England.

Bowen and his wife, Kimberly, will move to Baltimore this summer, after their daughter graduates from SMU in May. Read more about his distinguished career and his new job here.
