University Park resident Scott Raybourn, a seventh-grader at Providence Christian School, has qualified for the state competition of the National Geographic Bee. He and the other contestants will show off their knowledge Friday morning at the Pat May Center in Bedford.

One winner from each state will advance to the national competition, which will be held in May at National Geographic’s headquarters in Washington, D.C. The winner of the whole enchilada gets a $50,000 scholarship, a lifetime membership in the National Geographic Society, and a trip to the Galapagos Islands.

“We are proud of Scott and his accomplishment, and know he will represent Providence well at this state competition,” said Tony Jeffrey, Providence’s headmaster.
