After leading Highland Park to a remarkable run through the District 10-4A schedule, Layne Looney will try to continue his dominance in the Region II baseball playoffs beginning this weekend.

The Scots will face Frisco Wakeland in a best-of-three bi-district series beginning at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Scotland Yard. The second game will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Dr Pepper Ballpark in Frisco, with a third game (if necessary) slated for 1 p.m. Friday back at Scotland Yard.

Looney helped HP (19-11) secure the second playoff seed from 10-4A on Friday, when he threw his third no-hitter in district play during a 2-0 win over Terrell. Looney allowed just three runs combined in six district starts, and has 96 strikeouts in 60 innings pitches this season.

Wakeland (22-9) is the third seed from a strong District 9-4A. We’ll have a more detailed breakdown of the matchup later this week.
