Highland Park again staved off elimination in the Class 4A Region II baseball playoffs by pulling away for an 8-1 road victory against Prosper on Friday night.

The Scots (25-13) evened the best-of-three series and forced a deciding Game 3 at 1 p.m. Saturday at Scotland Yard.

HP bounced back from an 8-1 loss to the Eagles (27-10) in the series opener on Thursday and snapped Prosper’s five-game postseason winning streak in the process.

In Game 2, Brett Matthews homered and drove in four runs, while Matthew White added two doubles. Layne Looney struggled but allowed just one run in five innings to remain undefeated this season on the mound for HP, as the Scots committed four errors.

As the season boils down to one game, both teams have experience in such situations. Two weeks ago, the Scots rallied to knock off Frisco Wakeland after dropping the first game of the series. Last season, Prosper did the same thing to HP in the bi-district round.

The winner of the series will face either Mansfield Legacy or Red Oak in the regional semifinals next week. Those teams also will play a third game in their series today.
