  • Confucius Says: Drink Coffee

Finally, here’s a national holiday I can really get behind: today is National Coffee Day. I’m not sure who or what has declared this special occasion, but I fully support it. To celebrate, many local establishments, including 7-11 and Krispy Kreme, are offering free coffee today, but, alas, Starbucks is not.

Today is also Confucius Day, and I’m good with that, too. How do you think Confucius became so wise, anyway? By drinking coffee, that’s how. Look it up, it’s on the Internet.

  • It’s Like a Glaucoma Test for Your Scalp

I love shopping at Central Market, but there is one little irritation. Is it just me, or does anyone else find it slightly annoying that, as you enter or exit the store, you get hit with a mighty blast of vertically-blown air on top of your head? Every time, any door.

  • Back to School (You, too, kids)

Is everybody ready for the start of school? I’m not talking to you, kids, I’m talking to the parents. Lord knows that when you are the parent of a student at HPISD, then you, too, have a full schedule of school-related activities.

  • Old Man of the Aisle

Am I the only one who likes to occasionally browse the rows of college textbooks, like at the Barnes and Noble on Mockingbird? I wouldn’t call it an obsession, or a deviancy (although obsessive deviants can’t be expected to recognize their condition, I suppose), but I like to know what college students are being asked to read these days.

  • We’re Being Attacked With Heat

Yes, after the car “cooled down,” the outside temperature read 111 degrees. Is this an act of terrorism?

And to think, it looked like Dallas had beat the Heat in June.

  • Taxing Times at Dallas Country Club

I could have sworn the Dallas Country Club land and improvements were worth more than $15 million. Evidently not. Silly me, and silly DCAD.

I admire the ingenuity of this letter carrier in the PC. Notice her personal umbrella hat.

La Duni at Northpark: great location, good food and drinks, consistently rude, indifferent service with exception of one waiter.

Should we be concerned with scary weather and a plague of snails?
