7-year-old Michael Malone Loses Fight With Cancer

In May, I had the privilege of writing a story about Michael Malone — a then 6-year-old boy with Stage 4 high risk neuroblastoma, a malignant tumor that develops from nerve tissue.

The University Park boy was living out the final stages of his battle with the cancer but still managed to accomplish big tasks in any child’s life. He was able to celebrate his 7th birthday and graduate from kindergarten at Meadowbrook School where he was the class president.

Although Michael had been through multiple surgeries, treatments, and chemotherapy sessions, he still had a certain spark that was evident that day when he jumped around in a bounce house with his friends. After a two and half year battle with the challenges that came from the cancer, Michael went peacefully on June 23.

Donations in honor of Michael Malone can be made to The Michael K. Malone Fund at Wipe Out Kids Cancer or to St. Michael and All Angels Church.

A full obituary is in this week’s Park Cities People.
