Rathjen Wins State Cross Country Championship

Highland Park’s Natalie Rathjen wrapped up her high school cross country career in style on Saturday.

Rathjen ran a Class 4A state record time of 17.41.78 to win her first individual state title in her final attempt. However, the Lady Scots finish second to Canyon Randall to end their run of consecutive team state championships at three. Randall finished with 47 points, while the Lady Scots had 87.

Hope McLaughlin also had a big day for Highland Park. The sophomore finished sixth with a time of 19:09.49.

The Running Scots finished 12th at the state meet with 221 points. However, junior Rico Lara finished in ninth place with a time of 16:36.26.
