Sweet Three-Peat For Lady Scots

Highland Park’s girls cross country team made it three consecutive Class 4A state championships on Saturday in Round Rock.

The Lady Scots, who also won three straight state titles from 1997 to 1999, tallied 63 points to beat second-place Cedar Park by 25 points. Junior Natalie Rathjen led the way for Highland Park by finishing fourth with a time of 18:39. Highland Park’s girls have won 14 state championships.

After finishing 10th at state last year, the Highland Park boys took fourth place at this year’s meet with 134 points. Sophomore Rico Lara was the team’s top finisher. He took 30th place with a time of 16:51.
