Woodhaven Country Club Estates Homeowners Shocked By Style Network’s Big Rich Texas

Style Network’s absurd notion that Woodhaven Country Club in Fort Worth is the hotspot for Dallas socialites has Texans shaking their heads. But this morning I heard from a woman who lives in Woodhaven Country Club Estates and she said neighbors are laughing more than outsiders.

I read your story about the show Big Rich Texas. I don’t belong to the club but I’ve lived about a half mile from it for over 25 years. When the show came on I looked on the internet because I didn’t believe this was filmed down the street. I called my friend that is a member and she wasn’t watching the show so I told her to turn it on and she didn’t think they were talking about our Woodhaven either. When I convinced her we had a good long laugh. It’s not a bad place at all but even the people that belong there don’t think of it as a glamorous place. My friend said she’s going to get boa feathers and fancy shoes to sit by the pool.

Another reader, a Park Cities resident, said her parents belong to Woodhaven Country Club and while it’s a comfortable place for them to visit with friends in their neighborhood, they could not imagine why anyone from Dallas would travel for the facilities.

Anyway, if you liked the banquet hall where the episode 1 fight went down, the venue is open to non-member events like weddings.

Tivo’ed the first episode only after you alerted everyone to the hilarity and am so glad I did! Can’t wait for Sunday nights for the foreseeable future. My favorite part of the first episode–the photographer’s flash going off as each esteemed guest entered the venue. The blinding flashes seemed to be added in post-production, which was an awesome touch!

I will NOT spend another minute watching this show with it’s stiff, poor acting and boring story lines but, will definitely be reading Merritt’s re-caps!

Merritt – this show has served a purpose if only to give you great fodder for your spot-on writing!

    Keep it up!

Ok folks, you can put your knives and forks down cause this meal is finished, morsel by morsel. Although with some of the ferocity behind some of the comments I might say retract your claws and lick your paws. IT’S A TELEVISION SHOW! Nobody in the rest of America is going to care where the country club is. It’s just campy entertainment where people can turn their brain off and just watch some “real life drama,” LOL. It’s not ever meant to be taken so seriously. Dallas is and will always be a beautiful city that draws people from around the world. Television always distorts reality, even on a reality show. Location scouting probably got complicated and they had to shoot further out. The 80′s soap opera “Dallas” shot “South Fork,” by using a 4 bedroom house that wasn’t in Dallas either. BIG DEAL! Getting so worked up shows that apparently most of you need either a hobby or a drink. What makes Dallas look bad isn’t this show, it’s the nasty attitude of people like yourselves. Think about it, are people gonna watch extravagantly wealthy people hob nob and get along with each other at charities, or are they gonna watch a bunch of outrageous women go for each other’s throats? I for one think the show is hysterical and I think all of you need to take the corncob out of your own rear ends.

I use to live in East Fort Worth near Woodhaven Country Club and I’m not sure why anyone would want to go there. The club itself is okay but the neighborhood that it’s in, I would be scared to drive around in at night. There’s nothing but low income apartments and the homes used to be nice but values have dropped quite a bit in the past 25 years. 30 years ago, this was a very nice area to live in but now, you might end up getting robbed. Personally, I don’t like the show and I know it’s just TV but why would they film it at Woodhaven????

Any established, exclusive country club would not have allowed the filming so that should give an indication of the status of Woodhaven in Dallas society. It looks like a nice place to enjoy a game of golf but that’s about it. Obviously the owner of the club was paid for his participation in providing the club as a back drop for the show. The show, itself, is a hoot but I don’t see it being a long-term project.

I like this show it is entertaining. the best places to hang out are in the neighborhood, there is crime everywhere and most shocking crimes have occured in an area that was considered safe, i walk around my complex at night and no one bothers me, if you are concerned about the low income residdents, tell the republicans to create some jobs so we can get out of the hood.

OD- One, Texas has the best economy in the country right now. I believe it was last week, the front page of USA Today was titled, “Need a job? Move to Texas.” The article that followed that heading detailed how easy it is to find employment here. I agree. I’ve only been here for a few weeks, I don’t have my degree yet, and I was hired into an awesome job in a matter of days. Two, if you don’t like republicans, you’re in the wrong state. Three, don’t spell residents with two D’s and then expect anyone to hand you a job.

    Regarding the show? HILARIOUS.

Mr. Skoma, the new owner of Woodhaven Country Club, has really gone above and beyond, since his recent ownership at our club, to destroy the integrity and pride of those members that have fought diligently for years, to bring Woodhaven back to the status that it has had in past years.
In years past, it was THE CLUB to be a member of, and the area of Ft. Worth to live in..

All of the current members, and home owners of Woodhaven Country Club, find this show extremely offensive. We have fought long and hard to try and get rid of the apartments, which we have done. We have a few more battles to fight to get rid of the rest of the lower income housing, but we are progressing, and those that live there are from the old money, Ft. Worth region, and not the new money people from the Dallas area..
It was at one time the MOST prestigious country clubs in the entire area, and I firmly believe, with time, we can bring it back to where it was years ago…
We are people of integrity and honor, and will fight till the end to accomplish our goals..
I challenge anybody from any of the more prestigious clubs to come out and play the course. It is, without a doubt, the most beautiful and challenging course that I have played in the entire metroplex…

I would not want any of the women that they portray in this show to be any part of our membership. NOT one of them have a clue about how to play golf, bored women with nothing going on in their life.
It was an embarrassment to have them at our club, representing Woodhaven… Trash talk, the entire time with our members, etc… NOW we are talking white trash, with their daughters having a tatoo on her foot, SLUT????
Please cancel this show, it is all falsified, there are rarely any scenes shot from Woodhaven, and the director of this should actually be sued, to portray this as women and daughers at WOODHAVEN….
respectfully a member at Woodhave Country Club,

Nancy, how proud you must be as an American to be able to banish low income housing from your neighborhood as we all know that lower income families could never be as reputable, classy or deserving of a nice home as much as, apparently, you are. You should be embarassed by posting such an ignorant and not only non-American statement but literally one of the most inhuman rantings I have ever read. In this time of need when we should all be helping each other to survive in these trying times we still have people like you that not only believe there are “classes” within society and we should all know our place but to actively and openly hurt other American families because of status and economics is absolutely appalling. May your family never know the pain and hardships most of your fellow Americans are going through at this time but if you do, you may be surprised at the kindnesses you will receive from these same “less fortunate” families.

That was one of the most appalling responses I have had the misfortune to read. You proudly declare that you progressing in your fight to rid people of the very basic necessity of ….shelter. I can see why you signed off as (respectfully.. insert eye roll here)anonymous. I too would be ashamed to attach my name to such a self serving, uncaring and malicious post. Then again, I would never have written any thing so pompous and selfish.

Nancy – You should be ashamed and embarrassed, but not by the show. You are the eye-sore at this club, not a few cameramen. I can guarantee you that your comments have done more to “destroy the integrity and pride…” of our club than any show ever could. To all who read this, please be assured that this sorry excuse for a human being does NOT represent the true spirit of Woodhaven. How tragic that despite all of the social progress being made in this country, there are still ignorant people like you dragging us all down. Trust me, honey, there is not enough money in Texas to buy the type of high profile status you pretend to have and not enough funds in your bank account to buy yourself a decent reputation. Cash does NOT equal class. Remember this very statement: “But for the grace of God go I”….

I lived just across the highway from Woodhaven about 12 years ago and I can’t believe they have portrayed it like some la-de-dah social scene on this show! My God, how anybody filming a tv show make it any worse?! I know the neighborhood and trust me, if they have been down to the closet grocery on any given morning, you can see people hanging around in their housecoats and pink rollers out front. well, I’ve been a member of the woodhaven country club for many years, and what i find interesting, is that NONE of the people on this show are actual members…in fact the only reason why they are filming it here, is that its the only club that would allow the filming….in fact I am here alot during the week, I give golf lessons, and what I have never seen any of those ladies here….apprently from people around the club, they film a few shots here and there, but the actual club where you see them at is somewhere in Dallas….I guess no club wanted their name used in this crazy show…its funny to watch, like a train wreck.

I live in downtown dallas I am what would be considered a socialite here in this city ..My view on this show is as follows. These women all know eachother very well Pamala is the head honcho of this group her dream was to get into television at any cost .. she did try another show first” DALLAS DIVAS AND DAUGHTERS” .That show flopped next it is this B.S. I love anyone that goes after the gold However this show is planned, rehearsed ect the drama is all well thought out . Its a a show thats it Woodhaven Country Club is Last on the list of the true elite. This is about making Money Pamela is after the same longevity as the franchise ” The Real Houswives” which is also scripted tv They needed a Club Woodhaven was the only club that would open its doors .
In any case either way.. I do wish that these girls would display some level of higher intelligence. I get they need to get the ratings but come on The hunting is ridiculous I am sorry but you would never catch myself or any of my girlfriends hunting anything except the latest dress from our choice design houses’ I am a vegetarian. I am not snooty I am offended as for the lady that thinks We have to much time on our hands as we say here In Texas ” Yep Sure Do”.. lucky me I have time to comment on what is in my opinion a stage for entertainment .Actually the only truly wealthy woman on this show is Pam and Bonnie whom by the way are fast buddies in the real dallas scene and while we are all throwing in our two cents Pam is laughing all the way to Th The Big Rich Bank …

    1. This is a TV show, everyone wants to be a STAR.
    2. True “Rich people” don’t mention they have money. They’re too busy having a Wealth Manager oversee how their money is spent and working hard for it.
    3. A true lady handles herself with class and dignity, no matter how much money they have.
    4. I haven’t seen any Berkins being carried by these rich women.
    5. Most private country clubs wouldn’t permit filming, this one must have needed the money.
    6. Most Dallas women are too busy to be in front of a camera acting like fools.
    7. Oakmont Country Club has one of the best golf courses around, it’s in Oakmont, PA. outside of Pittsburgh, in case you didn’t know.

I absolutely love this show! I think it’s better than Bravo’s, I really do. Now just one thing, the last show wasn’t like the others, something has changed and I hope they go back to the way they were doing it. Is there a new director??? I looked so forward to seeing this again!

Although I’ve never had friends like Bonnie and whitney I’ve found them to be so real and likable. (sp?)
And who wouldn’t like Bonnie for a friend? I think she really must be a loyal, loving person. And that’s something very hard to find these days.

    A few thoughts:
    1. To Nancy- I’m not a fan of tattoos, either. However, I don’t think someone is a “slut” because they have one.
    2. To the self-claimed “socialite” in Dallas- Since you admit to having extra time on your hands, use it to brush up on your grammar, punctuation and cultural awareness. The word, “myself,” should never be used when the word, “me,” can be used. Also, periods, commas and spelling are essential in expressing a clear point. Also, Dallas isn’t the only city with several levels of class. Even a town of 1,000 has “socialites,” laziness and ignorance.
    3. To the lady looking for an Hermes bag to prove financial status- Ummm, some of the wealthiest people in the world don’t own expensive bags, autos, clothes or homes. They didn’t become wealthy by wasting money on status symbols.
    4. Big Rich Dallas is just a show for entertainment purposes. If it annoys you, you don’t have to watch it.
    5. No matter how beautiful, social, wealthy, trashy, ugly, poor, popular, intelligent or ignorant you feel someone is, there is always someone who achieves it on a higher or lower level. Ignorance is not just being oblivious to the better options in life, it’s also being oblivious to the worse options.

Just watched this week’s show. I can’t even apologize for watching it, it’s a hoot. So obviously scripted and lots of snootiness. Who prides themselves on shopping in a consignment shop? No one with real money is going to admit to wearing last years cast-offs and run the risk of wearing something discarded by a member of their society. What a laugh, so much for Connie. This is just one long advertisement for her business. Pam looks like she is having a great time. Probably good friends with Heidi and wanted an opportunity to promote awareness for the Fashionistas. I did have to look up the Fashionistas, though. I thought for sure it was made up. Melissa, well she seems nice enough. I guess she needs money that’s why she is here. Then there is Leslie, the villain because every reality show needs one. And last of all, my favorite, Dr. Bonnie. She and Whitney look like they are having a blast on this show. I want to hang out with them. Anyone who tries to give this show any validation is out of their mind. Relax and don’t take it so seriously.

TO Laynie, Woodhaven Maven and Pamela: I have lived in Fort Worth all my life and I know about the bad element surrounding WH and I know exactly what Nancy is talking about. EVERYONE in FW knows about how great it used to be compared to what it is now! I don’t think you guys are being very fair to her. The element that has moved in and taken over Woodhaven is not the good kind of low-income families. Most of those apartments are rented by crack heads and other undesireable people. No one is saying that the law abiding low income citizens are not welcome but rather the law breaking, property value ruining, crack running, dope smoking, criminals that live in those apartments. I don’t know anyone who thinks it’s a good idea to let people like that in their neighborhood only to watch them drag it down in the name of Political Correctness. Nancy isn’t being “inhuman”, she’s being honest! She has seen her property values decline and the element in the neighborhood declining as well. No one wants to spend all their money building their dream homes just to watch it all go to sh*t. That’s what happened to Meadowbrook and now Candleridge, MY area. There is nothing wrong with running out the ones that cause the problems and break the laws and rob the residents. There are plenty of places people can live if they want to deal their drugs and rob their neighbors, they don’t have to do it in good neighborhoods where people WORKED for what they have. Nancy, keep up the good work to keep your nieghborhood beautiful and respectable. There are more people on your side than you think.

I cannot believe this show is in anyway true. This has to be a rehearsed show. No one who claims to be a socialite can possibly get on public television and call each other the names these women do nor would anyone supposedly of their caliber would belittle themselves in this manner. Do not get me wrong, I cannot wait until they come on to see what their next fight will be about. I just love this hour of fun. Don’t take it off for as long as it was off during hiatus.

It is fun to watch the sleeze ball Mr. Skoma come off like a used car salesman. Love the way they filled the Zumba classes with professional Zumba dancers instead of club members. $100,000 millionaires. It is entertaining, if you don’t take it too seriously. No exclusive upscale club would allow it’s club to be made a joke of like that.

I’m shocked at some of the comments I read! Ms. Jen and Ms. Nancy…SMH. Really Jen, crackheads? Do you or have you ever lived in any of the Woodhaven area apartments? Do you personally know more than two crackheads that live in ANY east Fort Worth neighborhood? It’s probably safe to say YOU DO NOT! I teach the students that live in Woodhaven and it turned my stomach to read the inconsiderate comments made about the residents (specifically the low-income). Woodhaven is just as much home to the residents in apartment homes as it is to the wealthy in beautiful homes. Yes, the neighborhood has changed and I’m sure the property value has decreased (as in many neighborhoods), but it goes to show more people need better paying jobs and better resources. Please stop mistaking the poor for criminals, drug addicts, and more importantly bad neighbors. Most people (with the exception of Nancy and her “old” money) are one paycheck away from low-income; so count your blessings-not block them by turning your back on the less fortunate.

I grew up playing Woodhaven as a kid – 40 years ago. My father was able to afford a memebership on a US government salary! It was never an exclusive club, but a nice place to play golf and swim. Today, it is in a dangerous part of Fort Worth’s East side, with a huge crime rate.

Just recently started watching, but have T’vod repeats. As a Texas girl (grew up in Dallas) I am horrified that Texas women are portrayed like this. If these women were true Dallas socialites, WHY would they have to travel to Ft Worth for anything? They WOULDN’T. Nor would they be throwing drinks on each other and yelling obscenities. It makes me sick that these blonde bimbos with fake lips, fake boobs, fake noses, fake eyes, fake hair, fake skin, fake personalities are teaching their daughters to behave like this! What does this say about society that this is what we call “entertainment”? Okay… Got my 2 cents in.

Yes, Woodhaven is in Ft Worth, Most of the women and families on the show live in Grapevine/Colleyville/Las Colunas area which is considered DFW! If any of you have ever traveled, you know that most suburb names are omitted when speaking of major cities like Dallas. Big deal the show is sometimes filmed at Woodhaven..if you don’t like the show, don’t watch it! Simple as that! My daughter goes to high school with one of the daughters and they are having fun! OK, I won’t judge you on your punctuation. May I judge you on bringing up a year old thread?

Things like that don’t bother me, it amused me, was having fun with it. My response certainly bothered you, though.

As a Britt, I have only just come across this series and seem to have seen series 3 at same time as watching series 1. I am always disappointed when I learn how scripted these shows are, it takes some of the ‘OMG where do they find these people?” out of it 🙁 Lol

I was though delighted to read a comment above that states that Bonnke and Pam are friends in real life as I felt I was picking up on that bogus storyline. Their hating relationship seemed TOOOOOO ridiculous to be true so I figured they’re mates and ramping it up.

As for the types of characters portrayed in these shows, in the UK we mostly feel sorry for them as they seem so shallow. There’s more to life than money and handbags at dawn. But I guess they have to be content to know that and the scripted females are not content. Although Bonnie is which is why her character is more popular.

I wish we had a real glimpse into their lives, not the scripted version but then I doubt that’d be as much fun.

I am a shocked English woman with European Aristocratic history. How can you possible allow this to be public ?
I did consider coming to your ‘town’ however now all I see is ghastly fighting.
My husband is from a 400yr olf lineage and I wanted to show him how the US was actually a good place. Now this only show me how much my British European roots were lost.
I am quite frankly appalled how women / men with money conduct themselves. Do they not have any education ?

Hi i just need to be judged for commenting on an ancient thread by someone in Texas. We all know Black Gold is more accurate in showing our Texas attitude.

Love Fort Worth, love Texas. The affluent people we have met over the years behave with dignity, not at all like these women or men, who in my opinion are uncouth and as common as they come. Unfortunately for them, they think money makes them something they are not.

Funny that people in The Woodlands think they are high society. To the rest of Texans you are an overpriced suberb of Houston which is the butthole of Texas.
