Simply Summer Simply Shoes Bares All
Amy Turner had the underwriters of the Aug. 26th “Simply Summer Simply Shoes” at her place on Beverly Thursday night. Besides everyone looking drop-dead gorgeous, bare legs (pictured) and bare shoulders were the look of the day! -
Panty Party Anyone?
Intimacy at Northpark Center will host a “Bra Bash” to mark its one-year anniversary, which happens to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the frilliest, most uplifting of undergarments: the bra.The lingerie soiree starts at 6 p.m. on Thursday, and guests will receive a $25 Intimacy gift card, swag bag, mini massage, and champagne and cupcakes aplenty. The best part is, a portion of the proceeds from any of the fabulous lingerie you take home will go to The Family Place, which benefits victims of family violence. We can think of few better ways to beat this summer heat than hanging out in our underwear, eating cupcakes in air-conditioned splendor. See you there!

‘Return to Giant’ Screens at 7 p.m. Thursday
Park Cities rotarian Kirby Warnock’s documentary about Marfa and a troupe of Hollywood visitors has been lauded by the New York Times, earned its share of awards, and made at least one reporter laugh at loud (OK, and tear up at one point, too).
You can’t buy the full version of Return to Giant anywhere, but Warnock will screen it for the first time in years on Thursday at a special benefit for the Texas Theatre. We said as much in Friday’s issue of Park Cities People, with one g-i-a-n-t blunder: the wrong show time was noted in an info box. Argh! Sorry, Kirby.
The real deal:
What: Screening of Return to Giant, followed by a Q-&-A with filmmaker Kirby Warnock
When: 7 p.m. Thursday
Where: Texas Theatre, 231 W. Jefferson Blvd.
Cost: $5
To learn more, click here. The link will take you through the Big Bend Quarterly website (Warnock is publisher) and to an info page about the film.

Walls Looking A Little Drab?
Then don’t miss the open house for artist Carly Allen-Martin from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at Stephanie Anne in Highland Park Village. The Dallas-based painter’s recent work is an exploration of memories and dreams influenced by various landscapes. The relaxing, pastel pieces (that’s our fav at left) will be up for grabs at the soiree, and there will be plenty of wine and hors d’oeuvres to keep your hands busy while you browse. Allen-Martin also works closely with Orphans’ Heroes, and 20 percent of all her profits will go to supporting the organization’s educational and health projects for orphans. And who knows? You might find the perfect flowery piece to cover up that unsightly, naked wall. Or that hole you accidentally left after too much fun on July 4. For more info, call 214-368-3025.

Dunk Tank Makes Big Splash

Staff photo by Chris McGathey
Park Cities People raised $343 for Mad For Plaid through our dunk tank at Goar Park this morning. A big thank you goes out to our “celebrity” dunkees — which, besides the gentlemen mentioned in the previous post, included former UP Citizen of the Year Chris Murzin and HPHS valedictorian Tianen Li.
But the big money was raised via all the kids like Aubrey Stevens (pictured) who paid $5 for the privilege of being dunked. Next year, we’ll just forgo the celebrities all together.

Just In: Laura Bush Joins The List for A Celebration Of Reading
Just heard from Amanda and George P. Bush (pictured) that his aunt Laura Bush (aka former First Lady and current daughter-in-law of former First Lady Barbara Bush) will be part of the author lineup for A Reading of Celebration at the Meyerson on Monday, Nov. 8.
Warning: This event is not a high-brow, oh-hum type event. It’s a hoot. In fact, last November current son of Barbara/former president George W. Bush showed up and gave his parents an interesting time.
If you’re smart, get your tickets /sponsorship now and start your summer reading with books from the authors (Laura Bush, Dr. Condoleezza Rice, Jeff Kinney, Donovan Campbell and Leila Meacham). It all benefits The Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy.

I Don’t Like Onions. Cook it Right. And Leave it on the Porch if I’m at the Mall or Something.
In April of 2007 I wrote a column about meal sign up sheets. I can’t find the actual clip but a portion of the text is below. Anyway, today I got an online sign up complete with the likes and dislikes of the recipients as well as special instructions for delivery. Yep, it’s a website designed to streamline the process so now you can feel pressured to cook for your neighbor from the privacy of your inbox. (more…)
