Highland Park DPS spokesperson Detective Marty Nevil notified me that Billingsley was spotted soliciting without a permit within the town limits today. Unfortunately, he evaded officers and was spotted catching a bus toward University Park.

If Billingsley knocks on your door, residents are advised to not answer or acknowledge him. Instead, call Highland Park police at 214-521-5000 or University Park Police at 214-363-3000.

So, here’s my question. You know how each evening, and Sundays at brunch time, the valet parkers for The Cheesecake Factory and Blue Mesa start putting out their blue cones and hogging a bunch of the parking spaces? What is their authority for doing so? And what could they do about it (other than vandalistic activity to your car) if you simply moved one of those cones and parked in the space?

Cause I’m thinking about doing that.

Just got a note from the lovely people at the Highland Park Crime Watch site. Turns out, some of the folks that have been breaking out windows and stealing the third-row seats of domestic SUVs were almost detained by HP DPS officers. We’ve covered this problem here before and in our dead tree version. It doesn’t look like thieves are likely to slow down as long as there are targets.

CBS (Channel 11) just posted a story about the problem.

HP DPS is suggesting you park in your garage, if possible. If not, park as close to your home as you can to deter would-be theives.

On July 22, 2010 at approximately 4:00am, Highland Park DPS officers came upon individuals attempting to steal the wheels from a parked GMC Yukon in Highland Park west of the Tollway. When officers attempted to stop the individuals, they fled in a vehicle. During the officers’ attempt to catch up to the vehicle they determined that the driver’s high speed, disregard of traffic lights, and reckless nature; the most prudent course of action was to terminate the pursuit. The vehicle was last seen fleeing Highland Park.

These suspects are believed to be associated with previous offenses in HP and other cities across the Metroplex. Evidence was found indicating they might return to Highland Park and try to commit the same crime, possibly stealing the third row seat, as well.

Highland Park DPS is asking everyone who drives an SUV similar to a this one to please park them in your garage or as close to your house as possible.

While I was out of town it looks like there was breaking news. Late yesterday I received this inquiry from an area resident.

Don’t know if you heard or if you are on vacation, but last night there was a pretty violent carjacking on Lovers at Cleburne.

Guy ran down Cleburne, jumped on the car of a girl driving through the neighborhood, smashed in the drivers window, dragged her out of the car, drove the car down Lovers, crashed into a yard at Lovers and Airline, and then fled.

Caught five or so houses down on Amherst.

So last night I checked in with University Park Police Department’s Chief Gary Adams and he confirmed the incident.

This occurred yesterday afternoon or early evening on Lovers Lane in Dallas. UP officer captured the suspect. Suspect is believe to have been on drugs. He was immediately turned over to Dallas police who worked the car jacking.

The man, who is most often referred to as “the window washer,” has been arrested more times than I can count on my fingers and toes. University Park residents have spotted him at various places and bus stops throughout the city, often carrying a bucket and a squeegee. Read the whole story to learn why Billingsley continues to go block-by-block and door-to-door despite several warnings from police and what you should do if you happen to encounter him.

Landing in my inbox just moments ago, a missive from Dallas Police with may be the awesomest subject line I’ve seen in a while: “Loud Crashing noise leads Dallas Police to North Park Mall”. Classic.

So what was the commotion that so mobilized Dallas Police that they sent out a press release? Were the hammering men in that one foyer somehow sabotaged? Did a Justin Bieber sighting end in some sort of grisly chaos?

No and no. Turns out it was someone who drove a white or light-colored Ford truck through an exterior door on the south side of the mall, then smack into a Dillard’s security door at 2:43 this morning. Detectives believe they were going after two ATMs. Mall employees apparently scared them off.

No one was hurt except for NorthPark’s $10,000 glass security door.

My photos fail to convey the full beauty of the story that unfolded before my very eyes at around 9:30 this morning. A guy, maybe in his early twenties, emerged from the alley between Milton and Rankin in his bathrobe and nothin’ else. He picked a crepe myrtle bloom and stood (not so steady) on the egde of Hillcrest holding the flower up, shouting sentiments of peace to cars zooming by.

When he saw me across the street he yelled, “Hey love, come here” in a british accent and stumbled a bit. Then several University Park cops came screeching up on two wheels to bust up the show.

Developing.

Two employees of Jerry Jones were involved in a kerfuffle outside his Preston Road home last week, according to the Highland Park Department of Public Safety. No, it wasn’t Tony Romo and Roy Williams.

According to the incident report, security supervisor Frank Whitfield and bodyguard Johnny McWilliams argued over who was going to pick up one of Jones’ cars and who got to hold the remote control for the gate to Jones’ home. By the time police separated them, McWilliams was minus one pants leg and, presumably, minus one job as well.

All of this went down on June 9, somewhere around 2:30 a.m. Classy.
