  • What Park Cities Institutions Get Searched For?

This may have been on my mind because of the Craig James meme, or it may have been due to a recent Ticket segment in which the hosts typed their names into a Google window to see which terms the search engine automatically filled in. Either way, I wondered what would automatically get filled in if I typed “Park Cities.” The top 10 options are after the jump. How many can you guess before you see the list?

  • Californians Moving to Texas in Droves

In 2010, 68,959 Californians moved to Texas, the largest between-states move of any states in the U.S., according to the Census Bureau.

But why? Jobs? Better professional sports teams? Following In-N-Out?

The SF Weekly has some ideas. But be warned: the article also stereotypes some Texans as “gay-hating, Sarah Palin-loving, meat-eating freaks.” So…you were warned.

  • Website Matures, Gets All Stylish For High School

Check out Highland Park High School’s new website design. It includes a bunch of rotating photos — some quite nostalgic, and many shot by student photographers — and it’ll work well on your smartphone, says a press release. Worth a stolen glance during class, perhaps?

  • Google Street View Car in Dallas Today. Look Sharp.

Walking down Ross Avenue to work today, I spotted the 21st century version of the unicorn: the Google Street View Car. Acting cool, I slowly crossed St. Paul Street as the camera-heavy sedan passed. I added a bit of swagger to my step, to make sure they used my footage.

Moral of the story: look sharp today, people. Google’s comin’.

  • Woodhaven Country Club Estates Homeowners Shocked By Style Network’s Big Rich Texas

Style Network’s absurd notion that Woodhaven Country Club in Fort Worth is the hotspot for Dallas socialites has Texans shaking their heads. But this morning I heard from a woman who lives in Woodhaven Country Club Estates and she said neighbors are laughing more than outsiders.

I read your story about the show Big Rich Texas. I don’t belong to the club but I’ve lived about a half mile from it for over 25 years. When the show came on I looked on the internet because I didn’t believe this was filmed down the street. I called my friend that is a member and she wasn’t watching the show so I told her to turn it on and she didn’t think they were talking about our Woodhaven either. When I convinced her we had a good long laugh. It’s not a bad place at all but even the people that belong there don’t think of it as a glamorous place. My friend said she’s going to get boa feathers and fancy shoes to sit by the pool.

Another reader, a Park Cities resident, said her parents belong to Woodhaven Country Club and while it’s a comfortable place for them to visit with friends in their neighborhood, they could not imagine why anyone from Dallas would travel for the facilities.

Anyway, if you liked the banquet hall where the episode 1 fight went down, the venue is open to non-member events like weddings.

  • Mattie Roberts Reveals the Secret to Overcoming Eye-Makeup Smudging

    Mattie Roberts

Former Park Cities resident Mattie Roberts (aka Park Cities’ Louise Caldwell‘s daughter) occasionally posts beauty tips online via “The Mattie Roberts Show.”

Today’s segment is on the age-old problem of eye-makeup smudging. So maybe you already know how to avoid the evils of eye shadow creasing and which over-hyped mascara is a bunch of hooey, but having Mattie tell you is a hoot.

Can’t wait to see what she says in the Mattie’s No-Fail, Bikini-Ready Diet.
